چکیده

Much interest has been focused on generalized joint hypermobility in recent years with particular reference to its possible adverse sequelae. Though a feature of many hereditary disorders of connective tissue (listed in Table I), generalized joint laxity may occur apparently in the absence ofother abnormalities and probably represents the upper end of a spectrum of the range of normal joint mobility. Lack of precise criteria has hindered attempts to ascertain the incidence of joint hypermobility in a normal population. The term 'hypermobility syndrome' was devised by Kirk, Ansell, and Bywaters (1967) to describe this entity when it is the cause of musculoskeletal complaints.

Central common drive to antagonistic ankle muscles in relation to short-term cocontraction training in nondancers and professional ballet dancers.

Optimization of cocontraction of antagonistic muscles around the ankle joint has been shown to involve plastic changes in spinal and cortical neural circuitries. Such changes may explain the ability of elite ballet dancers to maintain a steady balance during various ballet postures. Here we investigated whether short-term cocontraction training in ballet dancers and nondancers leads to changes ...

Motor control and low back pain in dancers.

Professional dancers suffer a high incidence of injuries, especially to the spine and lower extremities. There is a lack of experimental research addressing low back pain (LBP) in dancers. The aim of this study is to compare lumbopelvic motor control, muscle extensibility and sacroiliac joint pain between dancers with and without a history of LBP. 40 pre-professional dancers (mean age of 20.3 y...

Single-leg squats can predict leg alignment in dancers performing ballet movements in “turnout”

The physical assessments used in dance injury surveillance programs are often adapted from the sports and exercise domain. Bespoke physical assessments may be required for dance, particularly when ballet movements involve "turning out" or external rotation of the legs beyond that typically used in sports. This study evaluated the ability of the traditional single-leg squat to predict the leg al...
